iPhone 14 Pro Max Specs & Features: How Big Is It?

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is an older flagship launched with the iPhone 14, but its size, camera, display, and performance still matter when considering one today.
With a 6.7-inch display and a weight of 240 grams, it’s a big phone, so knowing what it’s actually like to use is important just as much as reading the spec sheet.
We had the iPhone 14 Pro Max on hand for testing, just as we do with other devices we cover, such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The original photos in this guide were taken during our hands-on time with the phone.
Below, we pair that experience with verified details on its dimensions, display, 48MP camera system, A16 Bionic chip, storage, battery, colors, and price.
Features Offered by Apple's iPhone 14 Pro Max
The iPhone 14 Pro Max brought several major upgrades to Apple’s Pro lineup, including Dynamic Island, an Always-On display, a 48MP Main camera, and the A16 Bionic chip.
Beyond the headline features, its large display, premium build, and multiple storage options are some of the key details to consider when looking at this model today.
Display
The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 2796 × 1290 resolution at 460 ppi. ProMotion can adjust the refresh rate up to 120Hz, making scrolling, animations, and supported games feel smoother.
The screen also supports Dynamic Island and Always-On display. Outdoor peak brightness reaches 2,000 nits, which helps with visibility when using the phone in bright sunlight.
During our hands-on time with the device, the large screen was one of the first things we noticed.

It gives you plenty of viewing space for videos, games, photos, and everyday browsing, although the larger display also contributes to the phone’s overall size and weight.
Design and Build
The iPhone 14 Pro Max uses a stainless steel frame, Ceramic Shield front, and textured matte glass back. Unlike the titanium construction found on some newer Pro models, the 14 Pro Max uses polished stainless steel around its flat sides.
At 240 grams, it has a noticeable weight in the hand. If you prefer smaller phones or frequently use your phone one-handed, its size and weight are worth considering rather than looking at the 6.7-inch screen measurement alone.
The back houses a prominent triple-camera system, while Dynamic Island replaces the traditional display notch found on earlier Pro Max models.
Our hands-on unit is the Deep Purple version, and the photos below show the phone’s frame, rear finish, buttons, camera module, and overall build from different angles.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Colors
Apple released the iPhone 14 Pro Max in four colors: Space Black, Silver, Gold, and Deep Purple.
Our test device is the Deep Purple iPhone 14 Pro Max. The matte rear finish appears more subtle in some lighting, while the polished stainless steel frame gives the sides a more reflective look.

Storage Options
The iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. There is no expandable storage or microSD card slot, so choosing the right capacity matters when buying the phone.
128GB can be enough for everyday apps, photos, and streaming, while 256GB gives you more breathing room if you plan to keep the phone for longer. The 512GB and 1TB versions make more sense for users who regularly shoot high-resolution photos, ProRAW images, or large amounts of video.
Battery Life and Charging
Battery capacity in mAh does not tell the whole story, so Apple rates the iPhone 14 Pro Max by expected playback time. It offers up to 29 hours of video playback, up to 25 hours of streamed video playback, and up to 95 hours of audio playback.
Real-world battery tests use different workloads, so results can vary. In Tom’s Guide’s iPhone 14 Pro Max battery test, the phone lasted 13 hours and 39 minutes of continuous web surfing over cellular, giving us a useful independent reference alongside Apple’s official playback ratings.
The phone has a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery and supports MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W and Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W. It is also fast-charge capable, reaching up to 50% charge in around 35 minutes with a 20W or higher power adapter.
iPhone 14 Pro Max Camera Specs
The camera is one of the biggest upgrades on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, especially if you are moving from an older iPhone. Its Pro camera system combines a 48MP Main camera, 12MP Ultra Wide, and 12MP 3x Telephoto camera, giving you more flexibility for everyday shots, landscapes, portraits, and zoomed photos.
- 48MP Main: 24mm, Æ’/1.78 aperture with second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization
- 12MP Ultra Wide: 13mm, ƒ/2.2 aperture with a 120° field of view
- 12MP 2x Telephoto: 48mm, enabled through the Main camera’s quad-pixel sensor
- 12MP 3x Telephoto: 77mm, Æ’/2.8 aperture with optical image stabilization
- 12MP TrueDepth front camera: Æ’/1.9 aperture with autofocus
You get 3x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out, a 6x optical zoom range, and digital zoom up to 15x.
Our original close-up photos of the iPhone 14 Pro Max also show how much space the triple-camera module takes up on the back of the device.

Camera Features
You do not need to remember every camera specification to understand what the system can do. Some of its more useful photography features include:
- Night mode and Night mode portraits with the LiDAR Scanner
- Photonic Engine and Deep Fusion
- Smart HDR 4
- Macro photography
- Portrait mode with Depth Control
- Photographic Styles
- Apple ProRAW
- Panorama up to 63MP
- Adaptive True Tone flash

Video Recording
For video, the iPhone 14 Pro Max can record 4K video at 24, 25, 30, or 60 fps. It also supports Cinematic mode up to 4K HDR at 30 fps, rather than being limited to 1080p.
Other useful video features include Dolby Vision HDR recording up to 4K at 60 fps, Action mode up to 2.8K at 60 fps, macro video, slow-motion video, time-lapse, and stereo recording.
For users who want more control in editing, the phone also supports ProRes video recording up to 4K at 30 fps. The 128GB model is limited to 1080p at 30 fps for ProRes recording.
If you plan to shoot regularly, it’s also worth adjusting your iPhone camera settings for video based on whether you prioritize quality, smoother footage, or storage space.
iPhone 14 Pro Max Price and Availability
The iPhone 14 Pro Max launched at $1,099 in the US for the 128GB model, with higher prices for 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage. However, that was its launch pricing, not what you should expect to pay today.
Apple no longer sells the iPhone 14 Pro Max as part of its current iPhone lineup, so current prices vary by storage, condition, and seller. You may find it through third-party retailers like Amazon or as a refurbished or pre-owned device.
If you’re considering one now, compare its current price with newer options rather than relying on the original MSRP.
